I remember a service of baptism and renewal of baptism we were having at Grace Church one year. A man came forward and I asked if he would like to renew his baptism. I remember him saying, “Yes, I can use all the help I can get!”
What a wonderful attitude to have!
Last week you may remember that we were talking about “HOW” to walk into the uncertainty of life. We often don’t know “WHAT” to do . . . AND we trust that the “WHAT” will be revealed as we focus on HOW to practice this open-heartedness to God. We learned this from the Magi who followed that star! More good things were revealed to them along the way.
Today we are taking a look at baptism from Luke 3:15-17; 21-22 and remembering what it has to tell us about HOW we move towards LIFE as we walk along this uncertain path. If you are planning to worship online, you may like to have a cup or bowl of water with you during this service.
When we say “Remember your baptism” we are not asking you to recall the moment when water was poured over you or when you were immersed. Many of us may not remember that moment because we were too young. When we say “Remember your baptism” we are asking you to remember who you are as a follower of Jesus.
There are more than three things to remember about who you are as a follower of Jesus, AND, we are going to talk a little bit about remembering three things that are true about us when we are rooted in our baptism with Jesus.
Remembering these three things will help you with HOW you move towards life as you walk along this uncertain path.
Remember that you belong to one another.
Remember that you are not the savior.
Remember that you are beloved and able to name regrets and let them go.
