This Sunday continues our series entitled, "Called to More: Wrestling with Sin." Our focus from the Scripture will be Exodus 32:1-14 which is the story of when the freshly liberated people of Israel made a god for themselves that looked like a golden bull. Reflecting on this story is a chance for us to consider the power of telling our own story truthfully without attack, shame or blame for ourselves or others. It is a chance to sit with wonder at what made it possible for Israel to publicly tell this embarrassing story about themselves in a way that wasn't shaming, coercive or manipulative, but rather led to the life, liberation and love God had made them for. It is a chance to consider our own bull - the gods we make - who may provide some quick relief from our anxiety, but really fail to have the power to transform our lives, our business, our church, our community and our world. And it is a chance to leave the bull behind for the God of life, liberation and love.
