Living According to the Example of Christ

David Williamson

7/2/17

Description:How does the character forming, sanctifying grace of God work in our lives? This message invites reflection on Isaiah's image of God as potter and us as clay for understanding and experiencing God's sanctifying grace.

A Disciple's Heart: Walking in the Way of Salvation

Becky Weiss, Lay Leader

3/19/17

Description:Our Churches Lay Leader leads the congregation in worship this Sunday. The first 15 minutes will give you a sense of what happens during worship at 9:15 a.m. Hear from from Karen and Jeff they share about their connection to the church's vision. Also learn about an initiative to "pray across the generations". Becky's sermon is a beautiful reflection on the power of God's grace that comes to us throughout our life to convince us of God's love, forgiveness and salvation.

Imagining God's Future Story for Grace

Future Story Writing Team

2/12/17

Description:After a year-long spiritual discernment process, our current understanding of God's Future Story of Grace Church is presented here. It is not a list of goals or "to-dos", it is a spiritually discerned vision that has captured our hearts. We aren't sure yet what all this will mean in the way of activities, etc., but those specifics will be revealed in the days to come as the Map Makers Team works on a Ministry Fulfillment Map for the next three years. If God captures your heart by this vision, come join the story as we walk this path. We are becoming a church for all generations where we make disciples of next generations in the way of grace, practicing the means of grace.

Walking in the Light: Guided by Community

David Williamson

2/5/17

Description:As we seek to know and do God's will we are guided within a community of Jesus' followers we often refer to as the church. We experience guidance from others like the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8 received guidance from Phillip. Who have been your "Phillips"? Are you open and willing to go when God calls you to be a "Phillip" to someone else?

Walking in the Light: Guided by Tradition

Carolyn

1/29/17

Description:The Bible is our primary source of guidance for knowing and doing God's will. The Bible wasn't dropped out of the sky from heaven, it was written down by human beings under God's inspiration. Before they were written down the stories, laws, history and poetry was passed down through tradition. Ever since the Bible was written it has been passed down and many have gone before us to seek the living God through this written word. We find that God's word to us today comes to us through the light of the many traditions that have sought God through the years.

Walking in the Light: Guided by Scripture

David Williamson

1/22/17

Description:When we seek to know and do God's will we start with the Bible as our primary source. But the Bible isn't simple to interpret. How do we understand the Bible to be God's authoritative word when there are clearly parts of the Bible that say things we couldn't imagine being God's will for us today. Jesus gives us guidance on this in John 8. The written word of God from the Bible points us to the living Word of God who is Jesus. As followers of Jesus we read the Bible listening for God's word through the lens of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. We distort the Bible when we think of it simply as a rule book of right and wrong. When we do this, the words of the Bible become our god instead of God who is revealed through the Bible. Jesus exhorts his disciples in John 8 to look to him for life (through the words of the Bible).

When the Messiah Comes Among Us

David Williamson

12/11/16

Description:What does it look like when Messiah Jesus comes among us? What do you expect? To make your life better, easier? Some times our expectations and reality are different. In Matthew 11 Jesus reveals what it looks like when he comes among us. He goes to the people who are on the margins, often overlooked, easy to ignore. As the Body of Christ in the world today we are called to reflect who God is in the world today.

Are You Ready

David Williamson

11/27/16

Description:This season of Advent is like an obscene alarm clock disturbing us out of our spiritual sleep so that we get up and get ready for Christmas - THE Christmas - for the return of Jesus in glory. How do you get ready for Christmas? How do you live your life in a way that makes sense in light of the coming of God's reign in Christ?

Begin with Gratitude

Carolyn Williamson

11/20/16

Description:Sometimes it is easy to be grateful. Other times gratitude can seem impossible because all we see are reasons to complain. The Apostle Paul, writing a letter to the church in Philippi while he was in prison shows us how to practice the discipline of gratitude when it isn't easy. What would it be like to be thankful in all things, in conflict, in suffering, in disappointment, in despair? It might open you up to the ever present grace of God and transform you and others!

Called: Is God Calling Me?

David Williamson

11/13/16

Description:This was the Sunday following the national presidential election which had significant polerizing emotional effects in our nation and also within our churches. This sermon draws upon a letter written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Philippi - also in tumultuous times. It is a call for those who follow Jesus to "keep their eyes on the horizon" that will allow us to navigate these rocky times. The horizon for Paul is "our citizenship in heaven." What does it mean to keep our eyes on this horizon? What does it mean for you to be called to make the realities of heaven the realities of earth?

Called: God Sends the Beloved

Zach Grant

10/23/16

Description:Jesus calls and sends unlikely people to reveal his love and give us glimpses of God's kingdom. No body is left out. God wants everybody in on this.

Beloved: God Searches for Hiding People

Carolyn Williamson

10/16/16

Description:Our human condition has been described like this: Wanting to hide. Needing to be sought. Scared of being found. What does God do when God finds us? We are afraid to find out, really. Our greatest fear is that if we are fully known, we would never be fully loved. Jesus tells us that God is like a good shepherd who knows us and loves us. Jesus reveals God to us in that he knows us and loves us. And this grace changes us!

Beloved: Safe in God's Love

David Williamson

10/2/16

Description:We live in a world where threat and violence are all around us. How do we respond as a church? What does it mean for us to live as God's beloved in the midst of a violent world?

Beloved: Love and Grace

Carolyn Williamson

9/25/16

Description:What is the one thing that the church has to offer that people can't get anywhere else? Grace. What is grace? What does it look like when the church offers grace and when it doesn't? How do we stay close to the source of grace so we can offer it to others?

Beloved: God Loves Broken People - David and Bathsheba

David Williamson

9/18/16

Description:This is part two of a message about King David. In the first part (last week) we learned how David was a "revealer of God's heart" to broken people like Mephibosheth in 2Samuel 9. David shows great kindness and grace to Mephibosheth who was a disabled man living in a hidden, desloate place called "Lo-Debar." David's kindess to Mephibosheth and the identity he gives to him as "God's Beloved at the table of the king" points us to God's kindness and the identity we all are given by God - "Beloved." In part two of this message we see a very different side of David's life. David himself is broken. He uses his power to cause great harm. He takes Bathsheba (who isn't David's wife) and lays with her. She becomes pregnant wiht his child. David's failed attempts to cover up his harmful behavior lead to more harm. He ends up having Bathsheba's husband Uriah murdered. This is where this message begins. What does God do with people like David who are both Beloved and Broken?

Beloved: God Loves Broken People - David and Mephibosheth

Carolyn Williamson

9/11/16

Description:In 2Samuel 9 we hear the story of King David seeking out a physically disabled man named Mephibosheth to show him kindness. David surprises Mephibosheth by reminding him that he is the beloved son of the king and will always have a place at the kings table. This isn't just a sweet story about David's kindness to a broken man. This is a story that reveals God's heart for broken people and always seeing in them the possibility of grace. Have you noticed this truth for yourself? Have you heard God's invitation for you to be God's beloved, to leave your own place of hiding and take your seat at the Lord's table?

Dying to Save Us

David Williamson

3/20/16

Description:The week before Jesus was arrested and hung on a Roman cross to die he rode into Jerusalem in a triumphant procession riding on a humble donkey while people shouted the words of Psalm 118, "Hosanna!" meaning Lord save us. This message connects with the both the historical hope of that cry for salvation and to the meaning for us today. What do we need saving from and how does Jesus accomplish that?

Called: When You've Lost Home Field Advantage

David Williamson

Description:In many ways the church has lost its "home field advantange" in the culture we live in. This isn't new for God's people. The Prophet Jeremiah speaks to the people of God (Israel) during a time when they had lost their home field advantage. They were in exile, mostly because of self inflicted wounds. What does our calling look like in this context? Jeremiah and Jesus guide us toward a faithful response to our calling in our own cultural exile.
